Somalia: A roadside explosion targets AMISOM convoy in Kismayo
The remote-controlled bomb blast was targeted convoy carrying Sierra Leone Soldiers in AU peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM) while travelling Wednesday at Dalcadda area in the city.
A civilian was confirmed dead in the attack while 3 bystanders sustained injures who were immediately rushed to Kismayo General hospital, according to the residents.
"The blast has completely destroyed an AMISOM military personnel carrier. I have no details of the army casualties, but of course there are casualties," A witness who resisted to remain anonymous told KON by phone.
A ball of smoke rose into the sky then AU troops cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway. No group has yet taken responsibility for the IED attack.
The city has seen frequent bomb attacks and killings by Ras Kamboni militiamen and Al shabab militants in the past few years, with targets ranging from civilians to AMISOM troops and other law enforcement personnel.
